KT-Grant, Inc. has developed specialized equipment attachments for the safe, efficient removal and maintenance of furnace refractory and accumulations from EAF/EBT Furnaces/Tapholes, tundishes, BOF vessels, LMF ladle refinery, runners, hot metal mixers, BOF taphole, ladles, BOP vessel, QBOP vessel, snorkels, reheat furnaces and blast furnace troughs.

EAF/EBT COREDRILL

KT-Grant has simplified the EAF/EBT taphole removal and replacement process. The taphole drill system utilizes a quick change taphole drill attachment in conjunction with one of KT-Grant’s GOM 360 series crawler machines. The taphole drill attachment is quickly installed on the GOM 360. The operator places the taphole drill in front of the taphole and proceeds to remove the worn taphole insert. The average removal time is less than (5) five minutes. The drill leaves a smooth surface ready for the new insert and gunning material.

The operator then changes the attachment to a taphole insert holder. A new taphole sleeve is placed on the holder and the insert sleeve is placed into the taphole. The insert can be moved to align the sleeve for proper angle of the taphole. The gunnite material is then sprayed around the insert, locking it in place.

BOF COREDRILL

KT-Grant has simplified the BOF taphole removal and replacement process. The water-cooled taphole drill system utilizes a quick change core drill attachment in conjunction with one of KT-Grant’s GOM 360 series crawler machines. The taphole drill attachment is quickly installed on the GOM 360. The operator places the taphole drill in front of the taphole and proceeds to remove the worn taphole insert. PROFILER

KT-Grant’s Profiler refractory profiling attachment is built for various industrial applications. The carbide-tipped cutting drum can quickly grind the surface of castable refractory, removing layers of old material without damaging the foundation. This method allows controlled replacement of the refractory, minimizing the amount of material used while providing a rough finish for re-bonding.

The Profiler has been designed to incorporate interchangeable quick coupling cutting drums. The cutting drums simply “plug” into a motor driven, heavy duty, gear reduction hub. Each profiler is equipped with several cutting drums. This feature allows the operator to quickly switch a drum with worn teeth for a new, fresh drum. The operator can then continue grinding with the new drum, until the job is finished. After the profiling operation is completed, the drum can be serviced and the worn teeth replaced with new sharp carbide tipped teeth.

With the success of KT-Grant ’s profiling method, a new industry standard has been set to gauge efficient maintenance practices.

BUCKETS

KT-Grant manufactures an assortment of different styles of buckets that easily mount to their equipment. Many of the machines incorporate a hydraulic hammer for removing and breaking up heavy debris, scale build-up, and refractory linings. The bucket attachments are a perfect companion with the hydraulic hammer as the bucket can remove the material from the work area after it has been broken-up by the hydraulic hammer.

Many of the bucket designs incorporate one of the various quick-change features:

The very basic hammer shank design is simply installed in the hydraulic hammer chuck in place of the hammer’s impact bit.

A quick-mount 4” shank is suitable for machines that are equipped with the specially-designed quick-change box that allows the use of a variety of different tools that can be changed quickly by removing a single fastening pin.

One of the most popular styles of buckets, the flapper design, is made to install on the end of the machine’s flapper thus replacing the hydraulic hammer completely. It is mounted to a pin and secured in place with two heavy duty bolts.

All of KT-Grant’s bucket designs come in a wide assortment of bucket widths, from very narrow widths for tight areas, to widths exceeding 36”, depending on their special applications. Custom shank lengths are available for extensive reach.

HAMMER ATTACHMENTS

KT-Grant has a complement of quick change attachments that can assist in tear-out and clean-out operations. Various assortments of attachments including spade bits, scraper bits, and shank buckets are designed for specific applications.

The attachments are easily interchangeable with the hydraulic hammer’s moil point bit. The moil bit is simply removed from the hammer chuck and one of the specialized attachments is installed in its place. The attachment can be put to use immediately and quickly exchanged for another tool as working conditions warrant.

GUNNITE NOZZLE

KT-Grant, a leading developer of industrial equipment and techniques for de-scale, tear-out, and refractory removal, specializes in furnace maintenance. In order to promote extended refractory life, KT-Grant has developed an ingenious attachment, called the Gunnite Nozzle.

With the innovation of the Gunnite Nozzle Attachment, a refractory spray material can easily be applied to the surface of furnace lining. Ideal for emergency patches or complete surface coverage, it extends the life of the refractory between complete refractory tear-out operations.

Coupled with one of KT-Grant’s specialty equipment, the Gunnite Nozzle is mounted to the end of the extendable boom via a quick mount adapter. Switching between tools becomes quick and easy, allowing for the use of surface preparation tools such as hydraulic hammers and scrapers. After the surface has been cleaned, simply attach the Gunnite Nozzle to continue finishing the refractory surface with the gunnite spray material. The unique oscillating feature of the nozzle design ensures better coverage.
