Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Position Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy machinery, including excavators and other diesel- or hydraulicpowered vehicles. This position ensures all equipment operates safely and efficiently to minimize downtime and support production and field operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on heavy equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Rebuild, replace, or adjust engines and other critical components.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records using computerized systems or service logs.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and work orders.
- Operate and evaluate repaired equipment to verify functionality.
- Order parts and maintain inventory of commonly used components and supplies.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Provide field service repairs as needed (some travel or on-site work may be required).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational certification in diesel or heavy equipment mechanics preferred.
- Experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment (construction, mining, or agricultural machinery).
- Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical repair practices.
- Ability to use diagnostic software and repair tools safely and effectively.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to work in various outdoor or shop environments.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with CAT, Gradall, John Deere, Komatsu, or similar brands.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Working Conditions:
- Shop and field environments; exposure to noise, dirt, grease, and weather conditions.
- May require overtime, weekends, or emergency repairs.
